Couch Table by @smithbuilding

My son made me a table for behind my couch for Christmas, 2015. He kept it (and used it) at his house until we moved into our new house in July.

You can see the dining room table that he created to match in the background.

This is the first thing visitors see when they walk in our front door.

The cubes under the table are great for storage or extra seating.  Purchased at Wayfair.

My father-in-law brought this lamp base back from Thailand many years ago when he was in the military. My husband put together the lamp for a 4-H project!

Another fine piece of custom furniture by Smith Building that adds warmth and beauty to our new home.

The Thrill of the New House

I can't tell you how excited I get each time I walk in my door and see this:

I'm still pinching myself on a daily basis. And I'm still dreaming about decorating ideas...

And to know that my son almost single-handedly made this happen, makes it all the more special.  Please check out Smith Building's website. He's so talented!

Fall Welcome Sign

Yesterday I worked on a new project for my front porch.  A Welcome sign.  Here's the finished product.

The board is an old shelf that my husband dragged home from the farm.  All it took was a quick hosing off and some light sanding.  

I purchased the letters (already painted!) at Michaels Craft Store. The only purchase made for this project!

I already had the bow and silk flowers and leaves.  A little hot glue, and this project was complete!

I think it looks good with the wreath.  I plan to change out the decorations on both of these for the different seasons, so come back and see!

Retaining Wall

Wall Art - Eat, Drink & Be Merry!

I think this is one of the most simple ways to add some interest to a blank wall.  I purchased some inexpensive 12-inch canvases, bought a half yard of two fabrics, got out my staple gun and voila!  I really like how it turned out.

I have another project planned using the same technique, but a little more complicated.  I'll share it soon, I hope!

The New Hook Shelf

I don't have a coat closet in my house, so I wanted hooks for guests to use, and a place to set purses and bags.  I already had an old pew from the church I attended while growing up.  I put my builder, Smith Building, to work and he created a beautiful piece for me.

I made the pillows using patterns from Embroidery Library. I also knitted the chunky afghan a couple of years ago when this house was only a dream.  It's been in my attic patiently waiting...

The little statue next to the "M" was the top on our wedding cake. The blocks are old ones from my childhood.

The photo is of my father-in-law when he was in the military.

This little spot is one of my favorite vingnettes in the house.

The Master Bedroom

I've done a couple of posts about things in my bedroom, but I wanted to do a post and show you the whole room.  Now, I don't have anything on the walls yet, but here's a look at it so far.

The rocking chair may look familiar from this post.

You've seen the cedar chest and jewelry armoire on a previous post too.

I made this bed scarf out of a whole piece of cloth, appliqued the monogram, and machine quilted it.

This is my beautiful whole cloth quilt that my 89-year-old mother hand quilted.  There are a lot of stitches! I think she used six spools of quilting thread.  She and I marked it together using some old quilting stencils from my mom and my grandma (and some new ones too.) I'm so pleased to have this "instant heirloom" in my home.

I did a separate post about this little chest that I use as a nightstand. This is a much better picture of the final product.

I love my chandelier! I have a smaller matching one in the master bath. Oh and, you may have noticed we don't have the trim on this window yet.

I wanted a tufted headboard. (I do a lot of reading in bed and wanted the padding.) I planned to make one myself but found a good deal that I couldn't pass up on this one at wayfair.com.

The Family Picture Wall

Today I'm featuring the wall I've done of family pictures (so far.) I'd still like to add more someday.

I was disappointed when I discovered our security guy had installed a motion sensor right in the middle of this wall! Time to get creative. So, if the key in this picture looks funny (there's a big shadow) it's because it is stuck to the motion sensor. And...the sensor still works through the hole in they key!
